What to do after your procedure

RECOVERY ROOM

Once your procedure is complete, you will be transferred to recovery room stage 1. While you recover, the nurses will perform the necessary observations and administer pain relief, if required.

As soon as you are alert and stable, you will be transferred to recovery room stage 2, where you will continue to be monitored and looked after by our nurses and offered something to eat and drink.

During this period, if you experience any problems with the levelĀ of care and comfort provided, please ask to speak to the Director of Nursing immediately.

For 24 hours after an anaesthetic, you will not be able to:

  • Drive a vehicle
  • Drink alcohol
  • Operate machinery
  • Make important decisions
  • Sign legal documents

POST-PROCEDURE CARE

During the first week following your procedure, a nurse will call you to check how you are feeling and answer any post-procedure questions you may have. Should you have any cause for concern after the procedure, please contact your doctor directly.

You are advised NOT to drive a vehicle on the same day post-procedure, therefore no driving after being discharged. You may continue to drive the following day.

DISCHARGE

When you have fully recovered and are ready to be discharged, the nurse will contact your designated escort to collect you from the Recovery Area. You and your escort will be provided with written and verbal discharge instructions regarding your post-procedure care. It is important you follow these to ensure the best outcome from your procedure.

At this stage, you will also be provided with a patient satisfaction survey. Please take a few minutes to complete this. Your honest feedback will help us further improve the quality of our service and care.
